We landed in Rio at 10pm at night. After all the stories we had heard we didn't think we'd make it through customs without being robbed, but we actually managed to visit Rio without any incident. We spent about a week in Rio de Janeiro, which has some fantastic beaches. We visited the Christ Redeemer statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain in the mist, as well as taking a tour around the poor area's known as favela's. We then headed south to the little island of Ilha Grande for Christmas, before returning to Rio de Janeiro for New Year.
